Reference intervals (NGSP):
Non-diabetic range (>18 years)4.0 - 6.0 %
- Increased risk for future diabetes5.7 - 6.4 %
- Diagnosing diabetes (at least 2 occasions)≧ 6.5 %
Diabetic adults >19 years old:

Average blood glucose level (eAG) correlated with HbA1c
A1ceAG in past 8-12 weeks
5 % 97 mg/dL or 5.4 mmol/L
6 % 126 mg/dL or 7.0 mmol/L
7 % 154 mg/dL or 8.6 mmol/L
8 % 183 mg/dL or 10.2 mmol/L
9 % 212 mg/dL or 11.8 mmol/L
10 %240 mg/dL or 13.4 mmol/L
11 %269 mg/dL or 14.9 mmol/L
12 %298 mg/dL or 16.5 mmol/L
Reference Notes and Guidelines
1. eAG levels reflect the average glucose concentration over the past 8-12 weeks, and provides a more useful indication of long-term glycemic control than blood and urinary glucose determination. Formula: eAG (mg/dL) = 28.7 x HbA1c - 46.7
2. This HbA1c test is traceable to the Diabetes Control and Complications Trial (DCCT) reference study and is certified by the NGSP.
3. Interferences in HBA1c test may include:
- High Hb F (>30%)
- High Hb H (H Disease)
- High Hb Bart's Disease
- Homozygous Hb SS, Hb CC (no Hb-A present)
- Double heterozygous Hb SC (no Hb-A present)
- Other Hb variants
- Other severe anemia
For samples with interference suggest perform other tests such as Fructosamine or, if clinically indicated, a Hb Pattern for the presence of variants.
