Reference Notes and Guidelines
This is a qualitative assay for Ketamine. Ketamine is a derivative of phencyclidine. It is used medically as a veterinary, and human anesthetic but is also abused as a street drug. It is molecularly similar to PCP and thus creates similar effects. In high doses, ketamine can cause delirium, amnesia, impaired motor function, high blood pressure, depression and potentially fatal respiratory problems. Ketamine metabolites may be detected in the urine for several days up to 14 days depending on single or chronic use. If clinically indicated, positive results may be confirmed with GC/MS or LC/MS procedures. Results should be interpreted with care and correlated with accurate patient history. This report is not intended for any medico-legal processes.
