This is a qualitative screening test for opiates. Opiate refers to any drug that is derived from the opium poppy, including the natural products, morphine and codeine, and the semi-synthetic drugs such as heroin, the most commonly abused opiate. Opiates are detectable in the urine several days after the dose, and much longer with chronic usage. If clinically indicated, positive results may be confirmed with GC/MS or LC/MS procedures. Results should be interpreted with care and correlated with accurate patient history. This report is not intended for any medico-legal processes. |
