1. This reference interval applies to specimens collected after ≧8 hours fasting (no caloric intake).
2. If the patient was not fasting, the above fasting reference interval does not apply.
3. For non-fasting specimens, random plasma glucose ≧ 200 mg/dL (≧ 11.1 mmol/L) is suggestive of diabetes mellitus in the presence of classical symptoms.
4. In the absence of unequivocal hyperglycemia, the diagnosis of DM should be confirmed by repeat testing.
5. Flagging of results is based on fasting plasma glucose criteria only.
